Mr.Salaheddine Mezouar, Minister of Economy and Finance, attended the meeting of the second Arab Economic and Social Summit, held January 19th 2011 in Charm El-Sheikh in Egypt.
Speaking to reporters, the Minister stated that the decisions of this summit are in accordance with the outcome of the first summit (held in January 2009 in Kuwait City). He further explained that in this context, a Support Fund of $ 2 billion was provided to promote small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Emphasis was also put on the need to truly achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
In addition, the Minister stressed that the decisions taken at this summit focused on ways to speed up the momentum of inter-Arab integration and land, rail and sea links projects, and those relating to information technology and communication. The summit evaluated and followed up the implementation of decisions taken at the first economic and social Arab summit, and launched new projects to promote joint Arab economic action.
