The Minister of Economy and Finance and the Ambassador of Belgium to Morocco, chaired Thursday, January 13th 2011, at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the signing ceremony between the Belgian government and the Moroccan government, of two specific agreements relating respectively to the development of almond trees project in the Oriental region and the support program of environmental upgrading of rural schools.
Mr. Mezouar highlighted the special cooperative relations between the two kingdoms and welcomed the Belgium`s efforts to help in the development of Moroccan projects.
His Excellency the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium stressed, in his speech, that the signing of these two agreements comply with his country`s commitment to programs that have a qualitative impact on the lives of rural populations, and contribute to the efficient and sustainable management of water resources, particularly in the eastern region.
For their part, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Water and Environment, Mr. Zahoud and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Maritime Fishing, welcomed the efforts of Belgium to support developmental projects of crucial importance to Morocco.
The Belgian cooperation contribution to almond development project in the Oriental region, amounting to EUR 8 million aims to secure production activities and the income of farms located in environments with fragile economy.
On the other hand, the main objective of the environmental support program for upgrading rural schools, amounting to $ 5 million, are construction, rehabilitation and water supply maintenance systems and sanitation facilities for schools targeted by the program.
After the ceremony, the Minister of Economy and Finance and His Excellency the Ambassador of Belgium in Rabat welcomed the level and quality of cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of Belgium, and reaffirmed their commitment to work towards strengthening it.
