MEF-IFC: Strengthening cooperation in the field of PPP

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), represented by Mr. Samir Mohamed Tazi, Director of Public Enterprises and Privatization (DEPP) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), represented by Mrs. Joumana Cobein, Head of the Office of the (IFC) in Rabat, signed, December 2nd 2010 at the headquarters of the (DEPP) in Rabat a Cooperation Agreement on the development of expertise, identification and implementation of infrastructure projects in Public Private Partnership (PPP), in cooperation with the World Bank.  This agreement will strengthen cooperation between the MEF, the IFC and the World Bank in the field of PPP .It makes it possible to accompany the momentum initiated by Morocco to enhance the use of partnership for the implementation of development projects having a direct impact on economic and social development.

This partnership aims particularly to develop skills and expertise inside the DEPP with the creation of a unit dedicated to PPP and intended to provide support to the identification, installation and implementation of such projects especially in infrastructure sectors and public priority services.

In his speech, Mr. Tazi welcomed the excellent cooperation between the MEF, the IFC and the World Bank. He emphasized the need for this mission as part of a comprehensive vision that takes into account the progress made in PPP in Morocco by optimizing on lessons learned from PPP projects which are already completed or in progress.

Mrs. Cobein stressed the commitment of the IFC to work closely with the MEF for the success of this mission and the implementation of the objectives of this Agreement by achieving pilot PPP transactions.

The ceremony was attended by officials of the IFC and the DEPP.
