Signature of two financing agreements between Morocco and the European Union

Mr. Salaheddine MEZOUAR, Minister of Economy and Finance and Mr. Eneko LANDABURU, Ambassador, head of the European Commission Delegation in Morocco, proceeded Thursday, November 19th, 2009, at the Ministry of Economy and Finance at the signature of two financing agreements related to Support Morocco / European Union Action Plan Program and to maintain the program to accompany the Equity and Reconciliation commission`s recommendations regarding history and memory.

The first agreement signed by Mr. Youssef AMRANI, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, aims to enhance Morocco/ EU partnership and to support Moroccan public administrations and institutions in implementing the commitments of the Association Agreement and the Morocco / EU Action Plan`s recommendations.

This agreement is particularly the combination of Moroccan law with the EU acquis; amounting to 20 million euros (about 220 million DH) following two agreements, supporting the same program, signed in 2003 and 2006, with a total sum of 5 and 15 million euros.

The second agreement signed by Mr. Ahmed HERZENNI, Chairman of the Consultative Council of Human Rights refers to the program to accompany the Equity and Reconciliation commission?s recommendations regarding history and memory. It aims to facilitate the implementation of the Equity Reconciliation recommendations relating to archives, history and memory for the period 1956/1999. The Community contribution to this program is on the order of 8 million euros (about 88 million DH).

At the end of this ceremony, Mr. Salaheddine MEZOUAR and Mr.Eneko LANDABURU, welcomed the level and quality of Morocco/ the European Union cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to work towards strengthening it.
