On Thursday, December 10th 2009, Mr. Salaheddine MEZOUAR, the Minister of Economy and Finance chaired the signing ceremony, with the European Commission (EC), the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECI) and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), of a memorandum of understanding to support the Health Sector Reform Program.
The European Commission contributed to this program with a grant amounting to 86 million euros (about MDH 960 million), the AECI with 14 million euros (about MDH 168 million), and UNFPA with $ 0.60 million (about MDH 5 million).
The program to support the Health Sector Reform in Morocco aims to improve the performance of the Moroccan health system, particularly in health care base, and guarantee the availability of service quality health care accessible to the socially disadvantaged population.
This program is part of important ongoing reforms within the Ministry of Health (decentralization / regionalization, institutional reform, hospital reform and the sector funding reform).
Following this meeting, Mr Salaheddine MEZOUAR, Mr. Luis Planas PUCHADES Mr. Eneko Landaburu and Ms. Geneviève AH-SUE welcomed the quality of cooperation links between the Kingdom of Morocco, the European Union, the Kingdom of Spain and the United Nations system, while affirming their willingness to strengthen these ties.
