Ceremony of signing three loans agreements and guaranties letters associated with French Agency of Development (AFD)

Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, Minister of Economy and Finance chaired on Monday July 6th, 2009, at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, a signing ceremony of the legal documentation related to the three following loans:

1- Loan of 50 million Euros to support education reform.
2- Loan of 60 million Euros for the partial financing of the second program of rural roads.
3- Loan of 45 million Euros for the partial financing of the Tramway Project of Rabat-Salé.

Were present in the ceremony Mr. Karim Ghellab, Minister of Equipment and Transport, Mrs .Latifa Elabidi, Secretary of State for Education, Mr. Abdechakour RAIS, Wali, Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior and Mr. Jean-François Thibault, Ambassador of France in Morocco.

The first loan agreement to the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, Executive Training and Scientific Research for the partial financing of the education system reforming program was signed by Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar and Mr.François Lagier, Director of the AFD in Rabat

This funding will support the implementation of emergency plan 2009-2012 and contribute to the improvement of the Moroccan education system as a whole.

Mr. Ahmed IMZEL, Director of the Financing Road Fund and François LAGIER, Director of the AFD in Rabat signed the second loan agreement related to the partial financing of the construction and development of rural roads. This project contributes to achieving the target of 15,500 km of rural roads by 2012 and improving the rate of accessibility of the rural world to reach 80% at the end of the program.

The third loan agreement for the benefit of the Society of Rabat-Salé tramway was signed by Mr. Lemghari ESSAKL, Director General of the Agency for the Development of Bouregreg Valley and François Lagier, Director of the AFD in Rabat. This project is part of the implementation of integrated and sustainable development program of urban transport in Rabat-Salé. .

Thus, Mr. Mezouar stressed the importance of the financial effort made by the AFD for these three projects (155 million Euros, which is more than 1.7 billion DH) to accompany Morocco in projects such as education and transport. Mr Mezouar expressed the satisfaction of Morocco on the interest shown by the French authorities to support our country`s development projects and reform.

Finally, Mr. Mezouar and Mr. THIBAULT welcomed the quality and intensity of relations that Morocco and France maintain, especially in the economic and financial cooperation field.
