Visit of an American delegation for in preparation for the second session of the joint follow-up committee for the implementation of the Free Exchange Agreement

Mr. Salah Eddine Mezouar, Minister of Economy and Finance, received on Thursday March 19th, 2009 at the headquarters of his department an American delegation headed by Mr. Christopher Wilson, Deputy Trade Representative for Europe and the Middle-East. This meeting was held in preparation for the second session of the joint follow-up committee for the implementation of the Free Exchange Agreement signed between Morocco and the USA in June 2004.

Mr. MEZOUAR and Mr. Wilson spoke highly of the relations between Morocco and the USA, highlighting the role the Foreign Exchange Agreement has played in consolidating economic ties and further increasing American investments in Morocco, since it came to effect in 2006.

During this meeting, Mr. MEZOUAR underlined Morocco`s economic development in spite of the global economic slowdown. Morocco has managed to maintain a sound macro-economic climate and a reasonable growth likely to attract and reassure national and international investors.

Mr. MEZOUAR expressed his wish to see American investments in Morocco progress at a steadier pace and alongside the country`s strategic plans for economic development.

Finally, Mr. MEZOUAR and Mr. Wilson were pleased with progress made towards the implementation of the agreement. The second meeting of the joint committee was in itself an excellent opportunity to proceed with talks, and thereby maximize the positive impact of such an agreement on the economies of both countries.
