Consolidation of Cooperation between Morocco and China

Mr. Sallaheddine MEZOUAR, Minister of Economy and Finance, met at the headquarters of his department Mr. FU ZIYING, Deputy Minister of Commerce of the People`s Republic of China, at the ministry on Thursday, March 19th, 2009. Mr. FU ZIYING, who heads an important Chinese delegation made up of state officials and businessmen, on a visit to Morocco from March 18th to 21st, 2009 will hold business and political talks with Moroccan officials.

During the meeting, the two Ministers reviewed the economic cooperation between the two countries and expressed satisfaction with the friendship and cooperation uniting Morocco and China. They expressed their readiness to consolidate further this cooperation, to match the excellent political relations that the two countries enjoy.

The two ministers noted that because of the mutual advantages for the two countries, their economic and commercial cooperation has great potential for development, and explored together the possible means to consolidate and diversify further their cooperation.

Financial cooperation between The Kingdom of Morocco and the People`s Republic of China goes back to the 1960s. Indeed, China has financed several projects in various sectors such as sport, agriculture, fisheries, health, energy and agriculture.

The two ministers also signed an agreement for economic and technical cooperation between the government of Morocco and the government of China.

By virtue of this agreement, the Chinese government will donate 10 million Yuan Renminbi to be used towards financing projects of technical cooperation. The terms of financing will have to be agreed upon in due course.

Both Ministers are pleased with the interest shown by Chinese operators and their counterparts in investment and exchange between the tow countries. Operators are urged to further consolidate their ties and thereby develop partnerships and explore opportunities in various sectors of economic activity.
