The sixth session of the economic negotiations between Morocco and the European Union was convened at the HQ of the Ministry of Economy and Finance on 13th March ,2008. This session was jointly presided over by Mr. Zouhair CHORFI, Head of the Treasury and External Finance, and Mr. Jose Eduardo LEANDRO, Head of the ECOFIN Unit at the European Union.
During these consultations, Moroccan executives and their European counterparts reviewed the different economic components of the proximity action plan, as well as the prospects in improving the Moroccan-European dialogue regarding economic matters. This sixth session was devoted to the following issues:
1- Present macroeconomic situation in Morocco and the European Union;
2- Tax and budgetary policy in Morocco;
3- Evolution of monetary policy in Morocco: role of the Central Bank in regulating inflation;
4- Prospects of a gradual liberalisation of capital account;
5- Financial sector: Maghreb initiative and FSAP findings;
6- Cooperation in the field of statistics;
7- Business environment in Morocco;
At the end of this session, an informal session was held by the two parties to discuss the specific economic content of the "advanced status", and to further mutual understanding and agreement on this status.
