The Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Mohammed Boussaid, received Tuesday, March 11th 2014, in his department, the Finance Minister of Qatar, Mr. Ali Cherif Al Imad. This meeting is part of the High Moroccan-Qatari Joint Committee which began Monday, March 10th, 2014.
In a statement to the press, Mr. Boussaid described the relations between the two countries as ' distinguished ‘. He also stated that several topics were discussed during his meeting with his Qatari counterpart, including the development of economic and financial relations between Morocco and Qatar, and the integration of Qatari banks and financial institutions in “Casablanca Finance City” (CFC).
The Minister also talked about business and investments’ opportunities in Morocco and which are likely to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
For his part, the Qatari Minister noted that discussions also focused on opportunities to promote partnership between the private sectors of both countries to achieve development projects in the Kingdom. He further argued that these meetings focused on the activation of $ 500 million, representing the first and second payments of the contribution of Qatar promised by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Morocco.
In a press statement, Mr. Imad Al Ali Cherif highlighted Al Houara tourism project in Tangier. According to the Minister of Qatar, this project required a budget of approximately $ 1.2 billion and aims to create over 5,000 jobs. He stated that two 5 star hotels and a 4 star hotel will be built this year.
To be noted that the High Moroccan-Qatari Joint Committee is chaired by the Head of Government, Mr. Benkirane Abdeliah on the Moroccan side, and the Prime Minister and the Minister of Interior of Qatar, Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani Ben Naccer on the Qatar side. The work of the committee will be concluded by the signature of several agreements in various fields.
